Power and heat from biogas

Evonik New Energies is intensifying its involvement in the field of energy production from biogas. It is currently realising plants with a power output in excess of 2 MWel. At the planned facilities, it is intended not only to ferment renewables, but also biological waste. At the Karstädt biogas plant for example, 75,000 tonnes of liquid manure and food waste are fermented annually. When incinerated, the biogas produced by this method generates 8,800 MWh of electricity a year. The company is currently realising a large-scale biogas plant in Dorsten in cooperation with its EnD-I STEAG Bioenergie GmbH affiliate.
